Ballet Chelsea to host 2016 summer program auditions for Grand Rapids Ballet, Burklyn Ballet…

Ballet Chelsea is pleased to announce that our studio in Chelsea, Michigan will host auditions for 2016 summer dance programs for Grand Rapids Ballet, Burklyn Ballet Theatre, and Brighton Dance Festival. Auditions are open to dancers from any studio or school.

Looking for a fun Summer activity for your young dancer? Try one of our mini-session classes like Bop Hop or Hip Hop. Bop Hop (3-5 years, no experience necessary) A fun introduction to rhythm, locomotor movement, and beginning-level hip hop dance for 3-5 year olds. Dancers will focus on coordination, sequencing, and creative expression. Hip Hop (7-11 years, no experience necessary) Works with beginners to develop their rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style and teaching the basics of hip-hop. Alumni Spotlight | Amy Thompson Amy trained with Ballet Chelsea for over 10 years. As a performance company member, she performed in countless Nutcrackers, Sleeping Beauty, Five Dancing Princesses, Gershwin, and many, many other performances. After graduating from Pioneer High School in 2010, Amy attended George Washington University, where she was a Presidential Scholar in the Arts for Dance. She now is Global Head of Client Development at Bonhams Auction House in London. One of her favorite memories is her performance as the Dew Drop in The Nutcracker, when she truly experienced the sheer joy of dancing. Looking back, Amy couldn't choose just one favorite role, as she loved dancing in various roles, including the Sugar Plum, Snow Queen, and the ‘Good’ Fairy in Five Dancing Princesses. While she doesn’t anticipate future performances, in a dream world, she would love to dance any number of George Balanchine ballets, Jessica Lang’s ‘Let Us Sing Forever More’, or any Alex Ekman work. Amy's first performance as Dew Drop was pivotal, for she was a relatively last-minute replacement. Despite the challenge, this moment allowed her to grow her ability to learn quickly, adapt, and take on a challenge, all of which are vital life skills that have served her since. To new dancers, Amy advises that dance is fun and that getting to dance at a high level is a gift. She further iterates that the only way to grow is to work hard, push yourself, and take care of yourself along the way.
